Hello beautiful mama. Glad to have you here.

Who am I and why Mum to the Core?

My name is Simone de Cunha, a Kiwi native who has lived all over the globe, mama of one, certified functional Pilates trainer and postnatal rehab specialist, journalist and coach. I’ve been working with mama’s for almost 20 years now.

It’s my privilege to help mum’s look within and care for themselves as they juggle the pressures of modern living and motherhood via postnatal recovery, coaching in self-care and relationships to find what we all long for - a deeper peace within.

How I got here..?

My instinctive yearning to discover, understand and learn all things health, wellness, personal development and soul healing began early on in life, and the journey is, of course, forever evolving.

As a spiritual pragmatist at heart, I’ve always felt the deep link between physical health (real health) and soul wellness.

I’ve always loved to move my body. By crikey, then pregnancy came along, birth, and all that follows. I felt like my core had turned into one big marshmallow – I know you know how this rolls.

There’s mum guilt mixed with modern perfectionism (aka you should have a six pack within six weeks of birth). What…?

You’re simply trying to figure out how to breastfeed and how you got here in the first place. Pure shock and isolation was my first phase of motherhood.

Mum to the Core is a culmination of seeing a massive gap in genuine and effective postnatal rehab and body conditioning available to mums.

Intense research, training and experience led me to create Mum to the Core when my own girl was just a baby.

Has the path been all peachy?

Heck no! I went through a painful divorce and my father passed away within 18 months following that, and all before my beautiful girl was 3 years old. I was a wreck, and physically and emotionally drained. I’ve been there.

I remember the turning point conversation I had with myself whilst looking in the mirror, a deck of goddess cards laid out in front of me. Slowly the light shone her brightness and today life looks very different.

What I’ve learnt along the way…

  •  Self care is not selfish – it’s essential!
  •  Relationships and parenting are our biggest teachers – hell yeah!
  •  As we age and as we become mothers, our body transitions – this one I still struggle with. I’m a woman. It’s not always easy to accept. I’m vulnerable. That’s OK.
  •  That you can you kick low back pain in the butt, stop peeing in your pants and fix diastasis recti. Yes! I’ve helped many women do so.
The credentials...

I am a certified personal trainer and pre/postnatal and rehab instructor. The Mum to the Core training program idea began as far back as 2008, however my movement training as early as 1999. I began with personal training then quickly moved onto training with two of the most influential international Pilates schools, Stott Pilates International and also Polestar Pilates Education.

Since then, my work has seen me in studios, an exercise therapist for physios, working with pre and post-natal women and training other instructors in the Pilates method.

I’ve immersed myself in courses and workshops; gyrokinesis, alexander technique, functional training, to breaking beliefs and sabotages and life coaching. And so it continuously evolves…

I’m also a journalist and avid writer and can be seen in publications such as: Women’s Health and Fitness, Oh Baby, The Sunday Telegraph (Aus) and Natural Parent Magazine.
